Video Description

Episode 207 - Secret Clue On this week’s episode, told entirely from the perspective of the tail-end survivors (the Tailies,) solved some f the shows mysteries but, as always, left us with more questions than before. Once again, the connections and clues were everywhere, so let’s take a look. Firstly, we got an answer to a question that has plagued us since mid-first season – who answered Boone’s mayday call for help? In “Dues Ex Machina,” Locke followed the directions given to him in a vivid dream, leading him and Boone to the crashed Beechwood. Boone dislodges the plane putting out an S.O.S. but before he plunged to his death, a response mimicked his transmission, almost word for word. When the Tailies discovered the Arrow hatch, they found a crate containing a radio, a glass eye and the Bible. Bernard took charge of the radio, tuning in once a day just for hope, and he managed to catch and reply to Boone’s transmission just before Ana turned it off! But it was the other two items in the crate that eagle-eyed viewers will know provide the clues. Mr Eko takes the Bible, obviously an important text to him, especially during his self-imposed 40-day vow of silence. And the glass eye? It seems that Dr. Marvin Candle, host of the Orientation film, has had a run of bad luck; not only does he have a prosthetic left arm, but his left eye never moves either… We also learnt a great deal about the motivations of the “Others.” When Ana reveals to Goodwin that she knows he is an “Other,” we gain our first glimpse of how they operate. Sending a mole into the group, they create a list of all the “good” people before snatching them off to parts unknown. He admits to killing Nathan for not being a “good person,” but we unfortunately didn’t learn what he meant by good. He did say, however, that they are fine – something that jars with a previous clue. When Jin and Mr. Eko went searching for Michael, they were forced to hide while a group of “Others” marched past in single file, with the final member of the group carrying a teddy on a string. This week, we met the owner of the bear, 8-year-old Zach, tail-section survivor of Oceanic flight 815! Zach and his sister, Emma, were both snatched away from Ana-Lucia during the “Others” second attack, never to be seen again… Or so they think. It’s interesting that the Tailies have never encountered the Whispers or the Monster/Security System. In fact, the silent “Others,” or “Them,” have an entirely different way about them to the “Others” the fuselage survivors have come to fear. We have the group on the raft, “Them,” the whispers and now Goodwin, whose methods were eerily similar to those of Ethan… The big question, it seems, is just how many different types of people are there on this terrible island?
